We had several visitors during January but one stayed and found himself a new home. Binx (he reminded me of the cat in Hocus Pocus)- during the big storm that we had in January, we heard this cat meowing under our back deck. I put a box with a blanket outside and some dry dog food & water for him - that night we got more 2 feet of snow! He was a little thin but otherwise very healthy. He stayed around - someone dropped him off somewhere in the cabin association - we live over a mile from the main road. He is very lovable, tolerates Charlie and is starting to come in the house during the day for a few hours while I am home watching him to see how he behaves.
One morning as we were eating breakfast, I looked out the kitchen window and saw this big brown body moving - it was an elk on the road behind the cabin. He turned and headed up into the scout camp. Gary grabbed the camera and he got this picture of him up to his belly in snow climbing up the hillside. We have seen his tracks again several times but never have seen him yet.
January 7th & 8th - Gary's brother "Bishop Aaron Black" brought down some of his young men - Priest age - to spend the night at the cabin. They were going to the Biathlon on Saturday morning up Fairview Canyon. They made hamburgers with chips & drink for all and played in the snow for a while and then played games inside. They rose early in the morning, made breakfast burritos and headed to Fairview. This is the second time we had Aaron's youth in our cabin - they are always welcomed.
