We received an email last week from President O'Bryant and Sister Beardall giving us updates on when we need to report back to Heber Valley Camp and a general outline of meetings, temple attendance and a dinner at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and when we are expected to move the camp trailers up the mountain into the camp. Time is getting close!!

Welcome
Dear Heber Valley Camp Missionaries,
We are so grateful to have you serving with us at Heber Valley Camp (HVC) as Church Service Missionaries for 2023. This will be a powerful experience. It will be one of the highlights of your life as you share your love for the Savior and His gospel. You will have an opportunity to serve the Young Women of the Church, groups, families, and the other Heber Valley Camp missionaries. We want to thank you for your willingness to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Please plan to arrive sometime between Monday, April 3, 2023, and Tuesday, April 4, 2023. We have made arrangements for a temporary camp in Heber City while we are clearing snow at the camp. We fondly call this (“Cowboy Camp”) It is located within the limits of Heber City. It may be at a new location so the address will be provided before you arrive at camp. This is a great time to meet and mingle with the other service missionaries. It will be an important time of service and learning as we prepare for camp guests. Take time to explore Heber Valley Camp and get acquainted with Heber City.
For those bringing an RV: When you first arrive, please check in with Elder and Sister Losee at “Cowboy Village.” We estimate the cost while at “Cowboy Camp” is $12.00 per day and includes water, sewer, and electrical services. Weather permitting, RV’s will be moved to HVC after mission assignments are given and trailer pads are ready. Once you are moved to the mountain, rent is $10.00 per day for partial months/$300.00 for a full month.
For those staying in cabins at HVC: When you first arrive and before heading up to camp, please check in with Elder and Sister Losee at “Cowboy Village” to receive your cabin assignment and keys. The cost for cabins is $20.00 per day for partial months/$600 for a full month.
Payments to Heber Valley Camp need to be cash or check. We are not set up to receive payment in the form of credit cards, Venmo, etc. Fees for HVC cabins and “Cowboy Camp” RV pads should be made payable to “Heber Valley Camp.” Please provide payment to our HVC Camp Secretary, Sister Hansen, at Guest Services after we move to the mountain. The following schedule is an attempt to let you know what will be happening during the first week or two after you arrive. More information will be provided when you check in. You will be given a missionary handbook to read while at “Cowboy Camp.” To become familiar with HVC camp facilities, we invite you to drive around the camp at your convenience weather conditions permitting.
Tuesday, April 4 – Wednesday, April 5 Missionary Interviews We would like to interview all the First year missionaries during those 2 days. We plan to conduct interviews Tuesday and Wednesday. Interviews will take place at the chapel located at 1365 E. Center Street in Heber City. At the table when you pull into Cowboy Camp Please sign up for an interview time with Elder & Sister Losee.
Thursday, April 6-Sunday, April 9 Mini-MTC Begins at 8:00 a.m. until evening at the Heber City Utah North Stake Center (500 North and 500 East)
Photographs of all missionaries will be taken April 7 & 8 at 7:30 a.m. and during lunch. Sunday dress is required Thursday-Sunday. An Opening Social and dinner will be held that evening at the Lucy Mack Smith Pavilion. Camp dress is required.
Sunday, April 9 Sunday Services Fast and Testimony Meeting at 2:00 p.m. at 1365 E. Center Street in Heber City. This will be a one-hour meeting only. A Pot Luck dinner will be provided at 5:00 p.m. with a Mission Conference to follow from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Monday, April 10 Training and instruction continue (Heber City Utah North Stake Center) Dinner will be provided that evening, more information will be given at a later date. Camp dress is required
Tuesday, April 11 Training and instruction continue
Wednesday, April 12 Temple As a group, we will attend endowment sessions at the Provo Temple. We have made arrangements for HVC missionaries to attend the 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, or 9:30 a.m. endowment sessions. (There will be an opportunity to choose which session you would like to attend during Mini-MTC week.) After the sessions, we will meet at noon in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building (15 E. South Temple) for lunch. The luncheon will be held in the Sharon Room on the 9th Floor. A guest speaker will address us.
Thursday, April 13, and Friday, April 14 Relocating of RV’s to camp will be under the direction of Elder Hansen, as time and weather permits. Once on the mountain, Maintenance Zone Leaders will help with parking, directing, utility hookups, etc. Camp dress is required.
Sunday, April 16 Church Services as a group of Heber Valley Camp Missionaries
Church services will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel located near the Heber Valley Camp gate. Sunday meetings will continue at that building until we can hold church services on the mountain.
Monday, April 17 – Friday, April 28 Once on the mountain you will meet with your Zones and start training.
In February you will receive a separate email with additional information regarding things you will need to know to prepare for your mission at Heber Valley Camp. Our missionary force is filled for this year. Our goal is to work together to assure that Heber Valley Camp is a place where the Spirit dwells and can be felt by the approximately 60,000 campers who will be our guests in the coming months.

Clothing

Dear Heber Valley Camp Missionaries,
We want to provide you with the information that you need to order the approved camp clothing that you will need to wear starting at the MTC on April 6th, 2023.
All clothing can be ordered online from Signature press. We have created a try-on room with a sampling of sizes and styles of camp-approved clothing. The new clothes fitting room is located at the Guest Services Building. If you would like to come to try on different options, you may call me at 801-404-9252 to arrange a time to come to the camp. All clothing will be purchased in the signature press online store that is specifically for Heber Camp missionaries. You can do this from home, or we can help you with that here at the camp. We do have a few closeout items in the camp that are new and for sale. You may consider ordering early as it takes a while to receive the orders.
As missionaries finish their service at camp, many of them leave clothing behind. These gently- or not so gently- used clothing items are located in the maintenance building and are free to all missionaries. As you do not know your assignment before you arrive, the used clothing is a great resource for filling out your camp wardrobe or meeting specific needs. These clothes are maintained and distributed by the building maintenance missionaries. Sister McDonald will be notifying campers when those clothes are available once you are at HVC.
Official Camp shirts will be worn at Cowboy Camp as well as the last few days of missionary training after the MTC. Heber Valley Camp missionary uniform consists of an Official HVC logoed shirt, a logoed jacket or coat or plain Forrest green or gray coat, blue jeans that are plain, or non-cotton hiking pants (blue, black, gray, or khaki). Flat side pockets are ok, but flapped or bulky cargo pockets are not approved. Comfortable walking shoes/boots and official HVC baseball-style hat (no teams or political references on hats!)
Please note: All previously purchased Heber Valley Camp clothing is still approved and acceptable. For those of you who are returning for your second season, please do not feel the need to purchase any new clothing.
