Week 4

 The weather has made things a little difficult this week to complete our training.  The snow is melting but quite fast enough for our zone to go out look at the upper gates and trails.  Then when it snows it makes the trails at the lower gates muddy and makes it impossible to travel to them.  So we are planning on Monday, May 2nd to try again and see the lower trails and gates

Monday: For our morning meeting, Elder Van Duren made his Great Grandfather’s Old English Rolls.  What a great treat! The Elders cleaned the Safety shed and reorganized it. The Sisters cleaned the Welcome Center.  We spent some time reviewing procedures and what happens on Mondays. 

Tuesday:  When we all arrived for our morning meeting, there were these wonderful treats waiting for us on the table.  Elder and Sister Crane had one for us couple.

We found out this morning that Sister Cluff had gone to the hospital with pains in her stomach and the hospital was not sure what is wrong.  The hospital did not have an open bed for her and sent her home.  They were to do a CT scan this morning to investigate the matter more.  Also received word that Sister Tomlinson was moved to the rehab floor at the hospital.  She is doing better but has a long road ahead of her.

 

Wednesday:  We went through our first aid boxes that have been in storage since the end of the camping season of 2019.  Sister Hunt went over the list of items and each couple then checked their own boxes and made a list of needed items.  Each of these boxes are to be put into our own individual UTV.                                             

Wednesday night we went out to Panda Express in Heber with Elder and Sister McDonald (our neighbors behind our trailer), while we were getting our order, Elder and Sister Child came in and we all sat together and got to know each a little better.

Thursday: Elder and Sister Bassett took us on a tour of the camp to locate the different challenge courses, locate in the pavilions where the first aid materials are located, and to one of the emergency exits by Legacy Lake.                                           

We then went back to the Point Parking to set up an Obstacle Course to help and others and learn to maneuver our UTVs through tight places.  As we practiced, Elder Stevenson – our Operations Manager - came out and tried his UTV by going backwards.  He didn’t do very well in that direction.  He ran over several cones.                                                                  

It was mentioned in our training, that is would be safer if a gun was surrendered at check in, to have a 50 gallon garbage can with sand, to have a place to have the owner empty the chamber.  It was mentioned to Elder Stevenson and he was able to get the can and the Elders started the process of digging a place for it.

Later that afternoon we invited others from the camp to take a turn of going through the course.  Elder and Sister Cluff showed up and Sister Cluff wanted to try and she just buzzed right through the course with no problems!

We invited Elder and Sister Farrer for dinner - they brought grilled Salmon and boiled potatoes and I made a green salad.  We visited for about an hour while we ate in our little trailer because their trailer is even smaller than theirs.

Friday we had planned on doing the lower trails and gates - but it snowed - so we had a day off.  So we made plans to do things with Elder and Sister McQuivey (they are from Downing, Idaho).  Elder McQuivey had fallen off his stairs at their trailer earlier in the week and they heard that there were homemade stairs at the burn pile that other missionaries had made and left when they completed their service.  If nobody had a use for them by the end of next week, they were going to burned.  They found a set and we helped take them to their trailer.  Then we stopped at the Guest Services for Sister Stevenson and Sister Andrus told us that were putting bread into the oven and to come back and get some while it was hot.  It was delicious with freezer jam.  While we were enjoying our bread, Elder and Sister Bishop and then Elder and Sister Yeip came and enjoyed some bread.  The four of us then left for Midway to locate a cheese and dairy store.  Elder McQuivey loves almost all kinds of cheese and Sister McQuivey's downfall is ice cream.  So our lunch consisted of cheese and waffle ice cream cones.  Then we called the daughter of the Elder who makes the "Marbles" game.  We each bought a set - McQuivey's will give theirs to their daughter and son-in-law who like playing games as a thank you for helping them with their mission.

From there we stopped at Walmart in Heber to pick up decks of cards that are needed to play Marbles.  From there we decided to do our laundry and play a game of Marbles since the McQuivey's had not played it before. But while we were getting the laundry into the washers, Elder Hunt called Gary and asked if he could take the propane truck through the camp to get the motorhomes filled - so off he and Elder McQuivey took off to do that.  So Sister McQuivey set up the game and chatted for a little bit.  Elder and Sister Husted came in to do their laundry and they played the game with us.  Elder Husted and Sister McQuivey won the game.  The Elders came back after the laundry was completely washed.  

Gary and I came back and got some dinner, put away the laundry and decided on looking at the stairs at the burn pile to see if we could use any.  There was a set that would work and we measured the stairs and the zone trailer, came and got the 4 runner, hitched up the trailer, loaded the stairs, unloaded the stairs at the trailer, returned the zone trailer and by the time we got that done it was dark and we would finish it the next day.

Saturday we left to see Zane at his first Taekwondo competition in Midvale. He was nervous but very patient.

He competed in Forms and Sparring - and got second place in both for group.  We got to finally meet Jordan - our newest grandson!

After Zane's competition, we stopped in and surprised Shawn, Karey and the boys for a short visit.  From there we stopped and got the 4 runner washed and then to Smith's to pick up a few groceries and to kill time before we could go to Amy and Aaron's to pick up the Viking that Aaron brought up from Mt Pleasant for us.

Had a nice visit with Amy, Aaron and Dad before we headed back to Heber.  Uploaded the groceries and Gary got the stairs into place and we crashed for the night.

Sunday - Fast & Testimony Sunday.  Great Sacrament meeting and then Sunday School.  After church we headed back down to Provo to return the trailer to Aaron so he could take it back to Mt Pleasant.  They were having their monthly family dinner and invited us to stay and eat with them.  A wonderful visit with their family.
